United Nations Commission On Status Of Women(UNCSW)
The UNCSW is an instrumental intergovernmental body, completely devoted towards highlighting and resolving issues of women worldwide. Shaping global standards on gender equality and the empowerment of women is the noble mission of the UNCSW. It’s a functional commission of the Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC), it was established by Council resolution 11(II) of 21 June 1946.
It’s mandate empowers the committee to take a lead in establishing an equal world for women by stressing on taking actions to clear the world of misogyny and creating a better place for women.
Expanding the resolution in 1996, ECOSOC 1996/6 decided that it should take a leading role in monitoring and reviewing progress and problems in the implementation of the Beijing Declaration and Platform for Action, and in mainstreaming a gender perspective in UN activities. Currently it follows up its methods of work, established by ECOSOC resolutions 2006/9 and 2009/15.
This committee plays an crucial role in helping to live as equals, to grasp all opportunities and progress as independent individuals, as well as focusing on emerging issues that affect gender equality and the empowerment of women, deliberating on actions to accelerate progress and promote women’s enjoyment of their rights in political, economic and social fields.
